I saw someone post on here about why small towns vote red and as someone with family from a VERY small town, like one road small, I’d like to throw my blue hat in this ring.
They vote red because they don’t need to vote blue.
So many small towns actually operate very similarly to the “socialist agenda” they pretend to be so afraid of. They have a lot of community based programs that take care of those less fortunate in their communities, they barter when they can’t pay, etc., etc.
Which is why so many of their children “turn liberal” when they move to big cities because guess what, most of their ideology was very much in fact, already blue. They just didn’t know it was.
They don’t believe the government should “give them hand outs” because they’ve already been having to take of their own from the get go, and their republican reps continue to enforce this idea with fearmongering and lack of adequate education.
Now don’t get me wrong. Theres always going to be loud mouth racists, the not-so-undercover kkk members, and the weird doomsday bunker grandpappies who think ivermectin can cure their cancer.
But the majority of these people are actually more like your “blue dot living in a major democratic safe haven neighbors” than you might think.
